“Everyone deserves kindness; it is essential for us to thrive. Try Some!”

2020 Nadine Marshall Scholarship Winner – Jeffrey Low

Jeffrey is a senior student at Windermere Secondary School, located in East Vancouver. He is an impact-driven individual who believes in the power that kindness has to make a lasting difference in other people’s lives.

Throughout high school, Jeffrey was devoted to helping foster community connection and advocating for various social causes. During school, he has had the privilege of serving as the president of Student Council, which is dedicated to providing an outlet for youth voice and cultivating an outgoing school culture, through engaging events. Jeffrey also enjoys being a Link Crew leader, whose role is to mentor grade eights over the course of the year to ensure they have a smooth transition into high school. He loves having the opportunity to pass on crucial advice and provide a nurturing environment for younger students to thrive in. Moreover, as the chair of Windermere Ratanak Club, he works closely with his team to educate the community regarding exploitation and raise money to sponsor a hero to Cambodia so they can rescue child victims of sex trafficking. On the weekends, he is passionate about conducting outreach to homeless people in the Vancouver Downtown East Side through his initiative, Care For Vancouver. Connecting with vulnerable populations has helped redefine his perspective on privilege and the importance of accessibility to support services. In his spare time, he runs in the mornings with his school’s running club to prepare for half-marathons and is an avid business case study competition participant.

He is thrilled to continue learning about business at the University of British Columbia, beginning this fall. Jeffrey is overwhelmingly honoured and grateful to be chosen as the recipient of the 2020 Nadine Marshall Memorial Scholarship, as it will help him attain his future visions for creating a kinder world.”
