Applications will be accepted by mail or by email at [email protected] The Nadine Marshall scholarship has been established to recognize exceptional high school graduating students, inspired by the vision of a kinder world and committed to making a difference, with a scholarship to assist them in furthering their education. It is our hope that the recognition of our recipient’s important work will inspire them to continue to be involved in similar initiatives through their post-secondary years and into adult life. 2020 How To Do Some Good Scholarship Winner – Sabine Fedder

Sabine Fedder is a member of the 2020 graduating class of Lord Byng Secondary School. She is honoured to be the first recipient of the Kindness Foundation of Canada - How To Do Some Good Scholarship. Ever since grade 7 she has been involved in countless volunteer programs such as summer camps including an all girls sleepaway camp in Montreal, UBC soccer, Geering Up engineering camp, and Windsure Watersports. She also helped at numerous school events, and Wild Research as a bird bander. However, in 2019 she took this volunteering further by starting a new Lunch Buddy Club at her school for the students with disabilities and teaching art lessons at Point Grey Private Hospital. 2020 Della Paul Memorial (Lord Byng Secondary) Scholarship Winner – Joni Bromige

Joni Bromige is a graduating student from Lord Byng Secondary who has spent the last five years involved in sports and clubs around the school.  In her final year, Joni spent her time focused on making the school a more inclusive and positive environment.  Her role as a Peer Counsellor and Grade 8 Basketball Coach led her to build with the younger students and help them adjust to high school.  In the school’s Grad Committee, Joni acted as co-President and organized numerous spirit and fundraising events.  The Climate Justice club is where she spent her Tuesdays, organizing school and city-wide climate actions. Next year, Joni will be attending Ryerson University for Sports Media in the hopes of pursuing a career in Basketball Journalism.

2020 Della Paul Memorial (Prince of Wales Secondary) Scholarship Winner – Paige Ingram

Paige Ingram is passionate about making a positive impact in her community.  She is a mental health advocate and encourages students to maintain a healthy, balanced life. As a Here4Peers Leader, she has increased mental health literacy for over 240 youth by facilitating interactive workshops in Vancouver schools. Paige also founded the Be the Change Club at her high school to support vulnerable populations and engage students on social issues. As Club President, she led 105 members over two years in coordinating fundraisers and educational campaigns on the global water crisis, global inequalities in education, and local food insecurity. As a member of the Lieutenant Governor’s Youth Advisory Council of BC, Paige collaborates with eleven other members to vocalize youth-driven solutions to social issues specifically related to diversity & inclusion,…

Jeffrey is a senior student at Windermere Secondary School, located in East Vancouver. He is an impact-driven individual who believes in the power that kindness has to make a lasting difference in other people’s lives. Throughout high school, Jeffrey was devoted to helping foster community connection and advocating for various social causes. During school, he has had the privilege of serving as the president of Student Council, which is dedicated to providing an outlet for youth voice and cultivating an outgoing school culture, through engaging events. News Release: Our Kindness Counts program is now in Uganda!

The Kindness Foundation of Canada in collaboration with The Tekera Foundation has introduced the Kindness Counts @ School Curriculum to the students at the Tekera Primary School in Uganda. Brenda Casey, President of the Tekera Foundation, took our Kindness Counts program, simplified some of the English and sent it off to the teachers at the school.  The teachers began using it right away and commented that they saw an almost immediate, positive change in the students’ behaviour as they began to be more mindful of being kind to each other.  As a thank you they have sent pictures of the students.  Look closely and you will see them wearing the Kindness Bracelets that we sent along with the Curriculum.  The Tekera Foundation’s mission is to operate culturally specific, community driven…

2019 Della Paul Memorial Scholarship (Lord Byng Secondary) Winner: JoJo Zhang

JoJo Zhang is a student at Lord Byng Secondary School who participates in many school clubs and extracurriculars whose purpose is to better the community. This year, she focused her energy on the Ecology Club, where students pick up litter in the neighbourhood around the school on Friday’s, and the Leaders of Hope Club, where students perform at senior homes.  She also hosted a book drive to raise funds for Syrian refugees. In her spare time, she enjoys reading and watching Harry Potter movies. In the fall, she will be attending Carleton College.
